In this world where things fly at you faster and faster it’s easy to forget why you sat down at the computer in the first place. Like most of you I do ‘work’ on-line and research things that I am studying. It has become easier and easier for distractions to creep in during my time of ‘work’. I don’t know about you but sometimes I have to unplug or disable the wireless card and turn off the cell phone in order to get actual work done.

Some of us try to do devotions in the morning or evenings and wonder why we can’t ever make it through with out having to reply to a friend on a meaningless text…yes meaningless…you know the kind that say ’so what are you doing’, then you reply ‘nothing…what are you doing’…they reply ‘nothing, what are you doing later’…you reply ‘ nothing,…’ you get the picture.

So join me this week and unplug, disconnect and turn off those distractions that solicit your attention. During your quiet time this week focus on the creator rather than the created.

John 12:1-8
We looked yesterday how Mary (sister of Martha) used spikenard to wash the feet of Jesus. This was her act of worship to the Lord. Nard is a funny word…well not by definition. It by definition describes the fragrance that Mary used. Sot his begs the question…in light of what Mary’s act of worship was…what are you sacrificing for the Lord? What are you giving up? If you note that the two times we see Mary with Jesus she is at His feet…hmm…kinda makes me think that true worship puts us at the feet of Jesus.

Acts 6:4
“but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

It’s all about balance. In this verse we see that the Apostles gave themselves over to prayer before any ministry ever occurred. Prayer is pretty neat. In the past few weeks I have seen my own prayers answered. Do you ever wonder why God isn’t blessing what you consider to be ministry? Perhaps there is that person at school you are witnessing to but they just won’t engage you in a talk about ‘Christ’. Like the Apostles prior to an ministry (yes even before we share the Gospel) we should engage in prayer…it’s Biblical. So this begs the question…what exactly did I learn from a pink ball? Well it’s about balance. You and I have to balance everything we do with prayer. It’s the quintessential element that all Christians (young and old…or ‘very old’ if you are me) should hold to. Be encouraged and devote some time to prayer this week.
